Getting Started with Smart City Map Kit

Last revision 2026/09/02

This guide explains how to prepare the EDU0254 Smart City Map Kit as a shared physical environment for route-planning and smart-city extension activities.

1. What You Need

  • EDU0254 Smart City Map Kit
  • A flat work surface
  • One or more compatible project kits or Maqueen plus robots selected for the activity (not included)
  • UNIHIKER K10 and a computer running Mind+ when programming is required (not included)

2. Know the Kit

The city map provides roads and activity areas. Cards identify scenarios or destinations, while stands and building parts create visible city facilities and route constraints.

3. Unfold and Position the Map

  1. Place the map on a clean, flat surface.
  2. Smooth the map without folding or stretching it.
  3. Keep enough space around the map for students to build and test safely.
  4. If a robot is used, confirm that the route surface is level and unobstructed.

4. Build the City Facilities

Use the stands, building parts and building blocks to represent homes, farms, museums, stores, garages, pickup points and community-service locations. Keep structures outside robot driving lanes unless they are intended as route constraints.

5. Place the Scenario Cards

  1. Select the cards needed for the activity.
  2. Place each card at a clear destination or decision point.
  3. Define the meaning of each card before programming.
  4. Record start point, destination, allowed routes and success conditions.

6. Define the Activity

Before building or programming, write down:

  • The problem to solve.
  • The start and destination.
  • Inputs or events that trigger the system.
  • Route or safety constraints.
  • The expected physical output.
  • How the result will be tested.

7. Add Compatible Devices

The map kit does not prescribe one controller or wiring scheme. Follow the Wiki and wiring diagrams of the Smart Home, Smart Farm, Smart City or mobile-robot product selected for the activity.
