Mount the seeMote Cap on Other Tools

Mounting Options

The bottom of the seeMote Cap features a standard 1/4"-20 UNC threaded hole with a maximum usable depth of 6 mm. The following mounting methods are supported:

  • For a custom-designed or modified tool, you can add a through-hole for a 1/4"-20 screw and use the screw to secure the seeMote Cap.

  • For an existing tool, use a mounting strap and a 1/4"-20 screw (1|4-20x8(L2-6mm)) to secure the seeMote Cap to the tool.

Note: When selecting a screw, take the thickness of the mounting structure into account and ensure that the screw does not extend more than 6 mm into the seeMote Cap to avoid damaging the device.

Mounting Position

The platform area on the bottom of the seeMote Cap is a tracking blind spot. When designing the mounting structure, keep it within this area to avoid covering any other part of the seeMote Cap.

During use, ensure that all infrared tracking points on the seeMote Cap remain within the field of view of Apple Vision Pro and are not obstructed by the tool, mounting structure, or other objects. You can check for obstruction and reflections using the following methods:

  1. Check with the seeMoteViewer Cap App

    Open the seeMoteViewer Cap App and select seeMote Cap under Select Model. Several white spots will appear on the virtual seeMote Cap model, each representing a visible infrared tracking point. Make sure that none of these white spots are obstructed.

  2. Check with the Tracking Camera view on Apple Vision Pro

    On Apple Vision Pro, go to Settings → Developer → Debug View → Tracking Camera and enable the Tracking Camera view. You can then observe the infrared tracking points on the seeMote Cap and check for any obstruction or significant reflections.

Warning: Do not mount the Cap on high-temperature surfaces, high-speed rotating equipment, or tools that may cause injury if the Cap becomes detached.

Create a New USDZ Model

You can download 3D models from websites such as Sketchfab, Fab, CGTrader, TurboSquid, and BlenderKit, and use them to replace the default model in seeMoteViewer.

When replacing the virtual model, set the origin (0, 0, 0) of the new USDZ model to the center of the mounting surface on the bottom of the seeMote Cap, and ensure that the model’s local coordinate axes are aligned with those of the reference model. An incorrect origin or axis orientation may cause the virtual model to appear offset or incorrectly oriented.

The Wrench model in seeMoteViewer is used below as an example to illustrate the virtual USDZ model displayed in Apple Vision Pro, the position of the model origin, and the actual mounting position of the seeMote Cap on the physical tool.

Replace the Default Model in the App

  1. Open the seeMoteViewer.xcodeproj project in Xcode.

  2. Locate and delete acessory2.usdz from the Resources directory.
    Delete the existing virtual model

  3. Select Move to Trash in the confirmation dialog.
    Select Move to Trash

  4. Rename the new USDZ model to acessory2.usdz, then copy it to the project’s Resources directory.
    Add the new USDZ model

  5. Select Clear Console to clear the existing console logs.
    Select Clear Console

  6. Select Build to compile the project.
    Build the project

  7. Click Run to build, install, and launch seeMoteViewer.
